:: The colors of this antique Shirvan rug runner are particularly stunning and saturated, but in a mellow brilliance. All are indicative of natural vegetable dyes. This particular shade of rose is a lac dye. The vast amount of aubergine throughout alludes to an older weaving date. The wool of this rug is nice. While the warps are hand-spun wool, the wefting is hand-spun cotton. Probably used as patches for another rug. The design of this piece is very unique in that the design is separate from the sides and ends of the main border, and about 1/3 of the way through the carpet, the main border design changes adding to the intrigue of this rug.
